In my new class at McMaster I met a student whose high school teacher I had taught. I could tell from the first few notes that this was the case. Her tone and embouchure were clearly well focused and basically sound, just in need of some adjustment. As time goes on this happens with greater frequency. Because the music department here is generally accessed by students looking to enter the secondary school system as teachers, the applicants often have a basic knowledge of their instruments based on their own high school music experience. It’s great when that experience comes from a teacher who was already a specialist in the instrument that the student wishes to pursue.
